Founded in 1977, Centro Las Americas, Inc, (CENTRO) has changed as the needs of the population served changed. Today, CENTRO’s mission “To assist individuals and families striving to achieve self-sufficiently, live purposeful lives through our unique mix of comprehensive integrated services, exceptional care, and an unequaled cultural and linguistic competence”; better reflects the demographic, geographic and complex make up of our target population and its needs. For forty-one years, CENTRO has played an important role in identifying the needs of new immigrant families and has successfully connected them to needed resources.

CENTRO has successfully transitioned from providing a limited number of mostly neighborhood services during the past 29 years, to more Case Management, Clinical, Behavioral and Community-based health-related programs and services. CENTRO has a long history of working with children and families. Since the late nineteen eighties, CENTRO has had contracts with the Department of Children and Families, and later with the Department of Developmental Services, which have provided the opportunity for us to work with children, adolescents and families, with diverse needs. During the course of our contracts, we have conducted thousands of intake and assessments, developed service plans and provided case management services to thousands of Latino and immigrant families.

In addition to our health-related programs and services, CENTRO’s Emergency Food Pantry Services provides emergency food to area residents to reduce hunger and increase their chances of self-reliance. In addition to distributing quality food provisions (300,000 (+) lbs. in F.Y. 2019) FPS conducts an initial in-take and assessment to determine what additional CENTRO services and/or supports the FPS client could benefit from. In addition to making appropriate referrals within CENTRO, the FPS staff helps navigate on behalf of the client to other community-based, support programs. For the period of July 2018 through June 2019, FPS served (6066) households, supporting (15,942) individuals.
