Maryvale, founded in 1856 by the Daughters of Charity, is L.A. oldest orphanage. Evolving over the decades into a nonprofit that responds to the critical and changing needs of Los Angeles most traumatized youth in the Foster Care system, Maryvales programs now include a 24-hour, mental health services-based Residential Treatment Program for severely abused girls, aged 8 to 18; a 24-hour Emergency Placement Center that provides mental health and assessment services in a safe and caring environment for 6 to 12 year old boys and girls who are in imminent danger; a Family Resource Center to strengthen families, and two Early Education Centers.
