Department Overview: The Sheriff’s Office was created in 1742, at the same time Fairfax County was formed. Today, the Sheriff’s Office is one of three public safety agencies responsible for the safety and well-being of the 1.14 million residents of Fairfax County.
Fairfax County Deputy Sheriffs are certified law enforcement officers. Each Deputy Sheriff receives additional certifications in jail security, court security and civil process to perform the functions of the position.
