Position: Middle School Director of Student Life
Location: Jones and Hastings MS

Reports to: Building Principal(s)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Status: Regular/Full-time
Description: The Middle School Director of Student Life will direct and supervise the athletic program for grades six through eight and work cooperatively with administration, staff, students, and the public to promote understanding and participation in the school's athletic program.
NOTE: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher and relevant experience
- License and training in first aid, sports management, and hold a current Pupil Activity Permit
- Ability to be licensed to operate a school van and provide athlete transportation
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of athletics
- Knowledge of the following: Maintenance of facilities, vehicles, outdoor fields, and familiarity with necessary construction projects
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safety of students
- Coordinate all interscholastic athletics in grades 6-8
- Assists in the scheduling of all sporting events
- Responsible for the contracting of sporting officials
- Schedule and arrange transportation for the MS Athletic Competition
- Maintain current inventories of all equipment and supplies on hand
- Evaluate MS coaches
- Assist in hiring the new MS coaches
- Coordinate and provide assistance to head coaches in training and evaluating assistant coaches
- Arrange for timers, scorekeepers, ticket personnel, and administrative personnel involved in the total operation of all athletic events
- Ensure all spectator facilities are ready for all contests
- Issue purchase orders on approved purchase requisitions
- Assist with the organization and supervision of the awards night
- Devise, implement, and engage in athletic program fund-raising activities
- Implement and enforce student athletic program rules, regulations, and policies, including any needed hearings relative to eligibility or athletic code of conduct
- Prepares and administers team budgets at the middle schools, prepare written reports when required
- Interact with the public in an official capacity regarding the athletic program
- Coordinate, administer, and maintain files of game contracts with coaches
- Counsel, advise, and encourage student athletes
- Procure concession services and schedule the use of the gymnasium and other outside athletic facilities for games
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student files
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
- Maintain membership in relevant professional associations, attend meetings, and in-services as required
- Maintain website management
- Serve as a site supervisor for the MS conference tournament games.

Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional requirement to travel, both daily and overnight
- Frequent weekend/evening/summer work
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
- Frequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipment;
- Frequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school building;
