Supervises: Assistant Golf Professionals, Pro Shop Staff, Outside Operations Team (Carts, Range, Starters, Player Assistants)

Position Summary

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for the daily golf operation at the club. This role is designed to deliver an exceptional, seamless golfing experience for members and their guests. Key focus areas include managing tournament programs, providing top-tier instruction, and fostering an active, welcoming club culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Member & Guest Relations: Act as the primary ambassador for the club’s golf program. Maintain high visibility, learn member names and preferences, and proactively address member feedback with diplomacy.
  • Tournament & Event Management: Plan, promote, and execute a robust calendar of member events, including Member-Guests, Club Championships, ladies' and seniors' leagues, and occasional high-end corporate outings.
  • Merchandising & Retail Operations: Oversee the Pro Shop retail space. This includes inventory control, creative merchandising, and maximizing the sale of premium golf apparel and equipment. Manage a profitable custom-fitting program.
  • Player Development & Instruction: Deliver high-quality private lessons, group clinics, and junior golf programs. Stay up-to-date with modern teaching technologies (e.g., TrackMan, launch monitors).
  • Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor assistant professionals, golf shop staff, and outside operations team. Foster a culture of hospitality and professional growth.
  • Operations & Administration: Manage the daily tee sheet, enforce club policies and pace of play, oversee the golf cart fleet maintenance, and coordinate closely with the Golf Course Superintendent on course conditions and closures.
  • Financial Management: Assist in preparing the annual golf operations budget. Monitor revenues and expenses against targets.

Certification

Class "A" PGA of America or LPGA Member in good standing.

Experience

3–5 years as a Head Pro or Lead Assistant Pro, ideally at a private or resort facility.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Tech Skills

Proficiency with club management software (e.g., Clubessential, Jonas), tournament software (Golf Genius), and POS/Tee Sheet systems.

Core Competencies

Exceptional communication skills, strong financial acumen, refined tournament organization, and a service-oriented mindset.
