Position Overview

The Boiler Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial boiler systems and related HVAC equipment. This role ensures heating systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Boiler System Maintenance & Repair

  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot steam and hot water boiler systems.
  • Inspect boilers, burners, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and piping systems for proper operation.
  • Install replacement parts, components, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC and mechanical equipment.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, combustion, and control system issues.
  • Test and calibrate thermostats, gauges, safety controls, and operating systems.
  • Monitor system performance and make operational adjustments for maximum efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions, service calls, and emergency repairs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all boiler and HVAC systems operate safely and efficiently.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and local building codes.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify potential safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Document repairs, system performance issues, and completed maintenance activities.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair recommendations to supervisors or facility personnel.

Team Collaboration & Support

  • Coordinate with HVAC technicians, contractors, vendors, and building maintenance staff.
  • Assist with equipment installations, system upgrades, and shutdown procedures.
  • Support facility operations by ensuring minimal downtime and reliable system performance.

Required Skills, Education, Knowledge, and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in HVAC, boiler systems, or mechanical maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience working with commercial or industrial boiler systems.
  • Knowledge of steam, hot water, gas-fired, and oil-fired boiler systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot HVAC controls and electrical components.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Boiler Operator or HVAC certifications preferred.

Work Environment

  • The work environment may involve exposure to construction activities, mechanical systems, and active job sites.
  • Exposure to heat, noise, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
  • May require evening, weekend, or emergency response work.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and varying temperatures.
  • Frequent standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to work overtime or on-call schedules when required.
