Description:

Concern Housing is seeking a certified Peer Specialist to work with our Crisis Incident Stress Management (CISM) team to provide support to tenants across our ten supportive housing sites in Brooklyn and the Bronx in the event of a significant incident. The Peer Specialist will also work closely with our consulting psychiatrist from Janian Medical to provide additional peer support to tenants who may be undergoing mental health crises and a disconnection from care. Applicants should be individuals with lived experience as a consumer of mental health services who are willing to assist others in their recovery and rehabilitation in the community.

Days/Hours: PER DIEM, Day, Evening shifts as needed

Location: Across Brooklyn & Bronx sites

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • In conjunction with CISM team members, provide peer support to tenants experiencing critical incidents and mental health crises in their supportive housing setting.
    • Be willing to share personal experiences to foster sense of hope and recovery.
    • Engage in best practice training and accreditation with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) to enhance skillset and application
    • Provide face-to-face individual and group supports in supportive housing settings and document all services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
    • Liaise with consulting psychiatrist to discuss assignment and provide feedback in a confidential manner
    • Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and trainings.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED and NY State approved peer certification along with two years life experience with behavioral health issues. Experience with crisis de-escalation, outreach and engagement, self-help, recovery and other local support systems. Knowledge of Evidenced Based Practices (Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction). Bi-lingual Spanish/ English preferred. Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) a plus.
