The Opportunity

Our Minnetonka location is seeking a high caliber, motivated, self-driven leader to join our manufacturing engineering team for ablation catheter manufacturing in Abbotts Electrophysiology business unit. In Abbotts Electrophysiology (EP) business, were advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

This role supports the Operations team within the Injection Molding Engineering group as a front-line manufacturing engineer with a strong hands-on presence on the production floor. The individual will work closely with assemblers, technicians, and cross-functional partners to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and process issues , while also leading projects focused on capital equipment, manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures . The role is critical to meeting daily production commitments while continuously improving productivity, quality, and operational robustness.

What Youll Work On

Front-Line Engineering Support

  • Act as a day-to-day engineering partner to Operations , providing hands-on support for injection molding and assembly processes.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for mechanical and equipment-related issues , including presses, automation, auxiliary equipment, and downstream processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex process, tooling, and equipment failures to minimize downtime and scrap.

Manufacturing Process & Capital Equipment Leadership

  • Lead projects involving capital equipment selection, specification, installation, validation, and ramp-up , including molding presses, automation, tooling, fixtures, and test equipment.
  • Design, develop, and implement robust manufacturing processes that support both existing products and new product introductions.
  • Coordinate the design, procurement, build, debug, and qualification of tooling, machinery, and manufacturing fixtures.

Process Validation & Quality

  • Own and execute Process FMEAs to proactively identify and mitigate manufacturing risks.
  • Lead Process Validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) to ensure compliance, repeatability, and sustained process capability.
  • Conduct investigations into Safety, Quality, and Manufacturing issues , document findings, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Improve product quality, labor efficiency, uptime, and throughput using Lean Manufacturing principles and data-driven problem solving .
  • Drive process improvements and cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality and regulatory standards.
  • Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) activities in partnership with Product Development to ensure smooth product launches and scalable manufacturing solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, or related Engineering discipline , or equivalent technical experience.
  • 24 years of manufacturing engineering experience , with hands-on exposure to injection molding environments .
  • Demonstrated experience with process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and regulated manufacturing standards.
  • Strong background working with capital equipment, tooling, and automated manufacturing systems .
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving, and project management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in team-based environments; capable of influencing, driving change, and motivating peers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10% , including international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Injection molding or molding engineering experience , including process development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with tooling design, mold troubleshooting, and molding process characterization.
  • Prior experience supporting new product introductions (NPI) in a regulated manufacturing environment.
