Position Purpose:
Pharmacy Resident, within the scope of the Ohio Pharmacist Practice Act, will engage in a structured program that will provide experience in different areas of pharmacy practice. Experiential rotations, organization-sponsored education, a major project and oversight by highly qualified preceptors will serve the Pharmacy Resident in the development of knowledge, skills, and the attitude needed to provide high quality pharmaceutical care.
What You Will Do:
- Participates actively in all rotations. Completes assigned tasks and projects within established timeframes. Completes self-evaluation materials in a timely fashion.
- Manages major project effectively by completing activities according to planned timeline including project selection, IRB and/or P & T approval (if applicable), inter-disciplinary review, implementation and submission for publication.
- Interprets, evaluates and verifies all medication orders. Coordinates the dispensing of medication as appropriate in compliance with state and federal regulations and laws, and departmental policies and procedures
- Confers with Registered Nurses and physicians in order to assure optimal and cost effective drug therapy. This includes adjusting drug dosing and schedules, recommending more efficacious therapeutic alternatives, and detecting possible adverse drug reactions, food/drug interactions, drug/drug interactions, allergic cross reactivity.
- Documents clinical activities and other pertinent information (i.e. interventions, consult sheets, progress notes),
- Provides drug information to patients and other healthcare professionals, advising on proper methods and cautions associated with medications
- Formulates, compounds and dispenses sterile and non-sterile dosage forms of various drugs including orals, injectables, topicals and controlled substances
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Pharmacy
- Licensure / Certification: Licensure required within 90 days of starting
- Experience: One year of institutional pharmacy experience in an advanced clinical setting is preferred
- Effective Communication Skills
- Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize and manage pharmaceutical care, including delegating tasks to and providing direction to of other members of the pharmacy team
- Performs work independently with minimum supervision, and is effective in a stressful environment
- Retains membership and participates in professional pharmacy organizations including the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
- Demonstrates ability to manage projects with short and long range timeline
