M.J. Whelan Construction is an established and growing luxury design/build residential building and remodeling company, and we are looking for an experienced Residential Architectural Designer to join our family-oriented team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly creative, motivated, and collaborative design professional who loves bringing ideas to life through thoughtful residential design.

In this role, you will help shape the creative vision of our projects, leading concepts for custom homes, whole-house renovations, additions, and finished basements. You will work closely with our sales, leadership, and construction teams to create inspired concepts that align with our clients’ vision, lifestyle, and goals.

Primary Responsibilities

Design Vision & Concept Development

• Create initial conceptual layouts for custom residential projects
• Align design concepts with client vision, lifestyle needs, priorities, and budget
• Present design ideas clearly to internal teams
• Collaborate with sales and leadership to help win design-led projects

Design Quality & Brand Excellence

• Maintain design excellence consistent with the MJW brand and standard of craftsmanship
• Ensure concepts reflect timeless, high-quality residential design
• Review production drawings to ensure alignment with original design intent

Design Handoff & Collaboration

• Participate in handoff meetings with construction teams
• Clearly communicate design intent to the team
• Communicate clearly and collaborate on constructability feedback
• Work closely with field teams to support successful execution

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of residential architectural design experience
• Strong experience in custom homes, renovations, and residential remodeling
• Proficiency in AutoCAD required
• Rendering and visualization experience preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent communication skills
• Highly detail-oriented and organized
• Degree in Architecture or related field preferred
