Job Description The Electrical Controls Engineer designs, coordinates, and executes electrical and automation projects to support manufacturing. This role leads electrical upgrades and new installations, providing technical support to various facilities both remotely and onsite. The engineer identifies opportunities for automation, including robotics, data collection, energy savings, and efficiency improvements, ensuring all automated systems meet required functions and production needs. Collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Machine Tool Operation, Plant Services, Plant Maintenance, and Production personnel is essential to scope, develop, and install new and rebuilt systems. Responsibilities
- Design, program, and provide on-call support for electrical systems, focusing on electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, and plant support.
- Collaborate with Production and Engineering teams to align work with stakeholder needs.
- Design large electrical enclosures, sub-panel layouts, and wiring diagrams in compliance with UL/CUL/CSA certifications and NFPA79 wiring standards.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) on large electrical panels and equipment.
- Coordinate with project originators to define work scope and capture the sequence of operation.
- Maintain and update software, programs, drawings, and files accurately.
- Develop electrical panel designs and conduct panel design reviews.
- Schedule, coordinate, and install equipment and upgrades with Operations teams.
- Write PLC, HMI, and Drive programs for assigned projects with expertise in PLC programming.
- Provide startup training on Controls that is clear for production operators and plant maintenance staff.
- Create necessary bill of materials.
- Travel within the US and Canada, with anticipated travel requirements of 35% (two weeks per month, home on weekends).
- Expertise in PLC programming and panel design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for designing electrical panels from scratch.
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC's Studio 5000.
- Strong skills in electrical design, programming, controls engineering, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of schematic design, Rockwell automation systems, and HMI programming.
- Experience in factory acceptance testing.
- 3-5 years of experience with Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLCs and Electrical Panel Design in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Willingness and ability to travel 30%-35%, with the first six months requiring travel two weeks per month, home on weekends.
