Position: Elementary School Counselor
Reports To: Director, Student Services & Accessibility and Cassingham Elementary Principal
Employment Status: 0.5 FTE/Part-time
FLSA Status: Certified

Job Description: School Counselor in an elementary setting providing a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students in partnership with other educators, families, professional organizations, outside agencies, college and universities
Qualifications:
- Valid Ohio School Counselor license;
- Minimum of two years of experience as a School Counselor;
- Master's degree or higher in a related field;
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication using up-to-date technology;
- Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
Preferred:
- Trained and certified in a crisis de-escalation intervention
Performance Responsibilities:
Counseling and Guidance
- Advocates for all students to assist them in removing barriers to learning and in future planning.
- Promotes student learning and social/emotional growth in various settings.
- Engages in crisis intervention strategies when needed.
- Assist students with problem solving strategies that address immediate needs.
- Helps students develop appropriate coping strategies.
- Support Students and parents at points of educational transition.
Consultation and Collaboration
- Collects, analyzes and uses data from school based information.
- Participates in the MTSS process.
- Consults with teachers, administrators, students, and parents.
- Collaborates with staff, parents, and students, and assists with the development of strategies that support student success.
- Collaborates with District counselors in order to assure a fully articulated Counseling program.
Coordination and Use of Community Resources
- Identifies community resources.
- Refers and reports to community agencies as needed.
- Uses an effective referral process for assisting students and others to use appropriate programs and services.
Professional Responsibilities and Practices
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of district policies, curriculum, and strategic priorities.
- Plans and presents relevant programs to students, staff and parents.
- Models positive social behaviors.
- Practices ethical and legal behavior related to the practice of school counseling in alignment with national ASCA Standards.
- Commits to professional development activities.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field through a program of continuing professional education
- Updates professional knowledge and skills.
Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation
- Plans, organizes and delivers the written guidance plan.
- Use appropriate technology to support program delivery.
Working Conditions:
- May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Frequent interruption of tasks to support students, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and visitors.
- Must occasionally work nights/extended days due to school functions.
- Must be able to assist others by moving around the school and grounds.
- Must be able to lift and move 40 lbs.
- Repetitive hand motion (e.g., keyboard, typing) or voice-to-text.
- Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout their employment with the District.
