PurposeThe Senior Epic Technical Project Manager leads complex, cross-functional technology projects that support clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives across the healthcare system. Reporting to the Director of the IT PMO or a department leader, this role collaborates closely with IT architects, clinical informatics, application analysts, cybersecurity teams, and business stakeholders to ensure timely, on-budget, and high-quality project delivery.
This position manages the full project lifecyclefrom initiation through implementation and operational readinesswhile aligning with enterprise goals, regulatory requirements, and patient care priorities.
ResponsibilitiesLeads Full Technical Project Lifecycle Management
Defines project scope, goals, deliverables, and success metrics
Develops detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations
Manages technical project execution, ensuring milestones are met
Tracks and reports on project progress, risks, and issues
Facilitates project close-out and post-implementation reviews
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
Works closely with clinical, operational, and IT leaders to gather requirements
Facilitates stakeholder meetings and provides status updates
Aligns project goals with organizational strategy and compliance standards
Manages expectations and ensures stakeholder engagement
Resolves conflicts and escalates issues as needed
Manages Technical Implementation Activities
Coordinates with technical teams on system design and integration
Oversees vendor deliverables and third-party implementations
Ensures adherence to cybersecurity, interoperability, and data governance standards
Supports testing, validation, and go-live activities
Troubleshoots technical issues during deployment
Oversees Budget and Resource Management
Develops and manages project budgets and forecasts
Tracks expenditures and ensures cost control
Allocates internal and external resources effectively
Identifies resource gaps and proposes mitigation strategies
Prepares financial reports for leadership
Ensures Regulatory and Quality Compliance
Ensures projects meet regulatory standards
Coordinates with compliance and legal teams as needed

Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience managing EHR technical projects in a healthcare or enterprise IT environment
Experience with EHR systems, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications in an academic medical center setting
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsMasters degree in Health Informatics, Project Management, or a related field, with at least 7 years of experience in healthcare IT project management
Experience with Epic, Cerner, or other major EHR platforms
Experience as an Epic-certified application analyst
Experience with Agile, SAFe, or hybrid project methodologies
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Required:
Project Management Professional (PMP) PMI
Preferred:
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or SAFe Agilist
ITIL Foundation Certification
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
