Orchid Insurance, an Arrowhead Intermediaries company, is seeking a Class Underwriter to join our team in Miami, FL.

A Class Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and managing a profitable Latin American and Caribbean Casualty Facultative portfolio. Collaborates closely with the Miami team and the International Casualty team to ensure effective underwriting, monitoring, and overall management of the account. This role focuses on delivering sustainable growth and maintaining underwriting discipline across all aspects of the business.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Support the Head of International General Liability in writing a profitable Latin American and Caribbean portfolio as part of the International Commercial General Liability book.

  • Be actively involved in agreeing, formulating and delivering underwriting strategy and business plan in respect to Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Be actively involved in building a Casualty Facultative Team based in Miami.

  • Underwrite in accordance with underwriting authority and the business plan.

  • Ensure a full and comprehensive service is provided to brokers and seek out new opportunities through liaison with brokers and clients.

  • Review of new and renewal risks including slip analyses, perform rating / benchmark analyses and undertake premium monitoring.

  • Active involvement in marketing of department.

  • Assist in monitoring levels of business written are within the constraints of the Syndicate 1084 and CIC appetite and reinsurance program.

  • International travel to visit brokers, clients, and to attend conferences with our business partners.

  • Liaise with the International General Liability team on a regular basis.

  • Developing use of modelled data for pricing and exposure management.

  • Monitor & make sure that all risks written are entered onto Charisma and all risks have a rating model.

  • Interact closely and collaborate with other teams across the group (other underwriting teams, pricing, exposure management, claims, etc.).

  • Prepare reports and statistical information as required by senior management.

Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the Latin American and Caribbean Casualty Facultative market.

  • Minimum 5 years of Latin American Casualty Fac (re)insurance experience, preferably in an underwriting role.

  • A detailed understanding of fundamental insurance / reinsurance concepts and class specific terms and conditions.

  • Professional outlook.

  • Organized and able to work to tight deadlines and be flexible managing multiple priorities.

  • Able to communicate with different levels and is adaptable.

  • Comfortable with using in-house underwriting management systems.

  • Resilient, self-motivated and able to work in a pressured environment.

  • Fluent in Spanish and English.

  • Works as part of a team.
