Job Description
Emergency Veterinarian — Martin County Animal Emergency Center
Martin County, Florida | Full-Time or Part-Time | Competitive Compensation
About Us
We are an independently owned small animal emergency hospital serving Martin County and the surrounding Treasure Coast. No corporate mandates, no production quotas dictating clinical decisions — just a tight-knit team focused on delivering high-quality urgent and critical care to patients and their families when they need it most.
The Role
We are hiring an Emergency Veterinarian to manage a high-acuity caseload across overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. You will be the primary decision-maker on shift, supported by experienced veterinary technicians and a collaborative medical culture that values your judgment.
What You’ll Do
Triage and stabilize critically ill and injured patients. Perform emergency diagnostics including digital radiography, in-house bloodwork, urinalysis, and point-of-care ultrasound. Manage common ER presentations: trauma, GI obstruction, toxin ingestion, respiratory distress, urethral obstruction, seizures, and DKA, among others. Perform soft tissue surgery and emergency procedures as indicated. Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients under stress. Maintain accurate, legally sound medical records. Collaborate with and refer to specialty practices as appropriate.
Qualifications
DVM or VMD from an AVMA-accredited institution. Active Florida veterinary license (or eligibility). Emergency or critical care experience strongly preferred; new graduates with clinical emergency rotations will be considered. ACVECC board certification or residency training is a plus, not a requirement. Surgical confidence is valued — comfort with GI foreign body, cystotomy, splenectomy, and exploratory procedures is important.
What We Offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Flexible scheduling with input on shift structure. Health benefits, CE allowance, professional dues, and DEA/license fees covered. Malpractice insurance provided. A workplace where you are known by name, not an employee number.
Why Martin County
Stuart and the surrounding area offer year-round outdoor recreation, a genuine small-city character, and proximity to both coasts of South Florida without the congestion of Miami or Fort Lauderdale. It’s a community worth practicing in.
