This is an onsite position that utilizes solar construction and heavy equipment operations knowledge and experience to interact with field employees and supervisors to observe and evaluate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform covered tasks safely and effectively. The OQ Evaluator and Trainer will facilitate equipment training for the company's Registered Apprenticeship Program, delivering hands-on instruction in heavy equipment operation and related construction skills to support apprentice development and progression. The role may also participate in creating, developing, improving, and delivering high-quality technical training for employees through distance learning, instructor-led, and hands-on training methods. During this process, the OQ Evaluator and Trainer will partner with peers, vendors, industry associations, and both internal and external experts to identify and improve training content to enhance employee task mastery. May work independently or as a member of a team of peer training professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of solar construction and heavy equipment operations employees by performing tasks and assignments that develop and refine technical training and operator qualifications.
  • Proctors test and function as an Operator Qualification Evaluator, conducting hands-on performance evaluations in accordance with the company's Operator Qualification Plan and applicable federal regulations (e.g., OSHA standards, and company safety protocols).
  • Facilitate equipment training for the Registered Apprenticeship Program, delivering structured, hands-on instruction in heavy equipment operation (e.g., excavation, grading, material handling) and related construction competencies to apprentices.
  • Ensure contractors and field personnel are properly qualified and are performing covered tasks according to company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the interpretation of regulations and identify their applicability to Company business and operational policies and procedures.
  • Assist in reviewing, improving and/or developing training content and materials, including apprenticeship curriculum modules.
  • Provide technical support to managers, supervisors, and field personnel.
  • Maintain open communication with Operations personnel, Quality/Safety Management Department personnel, and direct supervisor.
  • Input training records into Learning Management System (LMS).

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate special projects, including apprenticeship-related initiatives or equipment training workshops.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents and accidents.

Qualifications and Requirements

What Is Required

  • This is an onsite position and does require temporary relocation to project community.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years relevant training or solar construction/heavy equipment/natural gas utility experience.
  • Must become certified as an Operator Qualification Evaluator within six months (180 days).
  • This position requires driving responsibilities. You must hold and maintain a valid driver's license, meet company and insurer standards.
  • This is an onsite position requiring regular presence at construction sites, training facilities, or company offices.

What is desired

  • Experience performing instructor-led and hands-on training is helpful, particularly in facilitating equipment training for apprenticeship programs.
  • Fundamental knowledge of adult learning techniques along with classroom presentation, facilitation, and training skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of solar construction operations, heavy equipment, maintenance, construction practices, emergency procedures, and applicable State/federal regulations.
  • Essential knowledge of Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements, including relevant federal regulations.
  • Familiarity with Registered Apprenticeship Program standards, DOL requirements, and competency-based training delivery.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Fundamental digital literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor, guide others, and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to explain technical theories, functions, regulations, and procedures clearly and accurately in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task with limited supervision.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

  • Salary $70,000 - $99,000 annually, dependent on experience, qualifications, and competencies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
  • Must pass a physical exam if required.
  • Able to:
    • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
    • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations).
    • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (Use assistance for heavier loads).
    • Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required.

Work Location:

  • Industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shops.

Mobility Barriers:
