Job Type: Full-time - 40 hours per week with paid overtime.
Location: Northern California Region
Salary: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 (salary varies based on your skill level and experience).

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and guide our transportation civil design practice. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who values design excellence, enjoys mentoring teams, and wants meaningful influence over projects and outcomes.
The Role
As a Senior Civil Engineer at JMA, you’ll serve as both a technical leader and people leader on major transportation projects across California. You’ll oversee complex civil designs while guiding project teams, leading client and agency coordination, and ensuring technical quality from planning through construction.
Your work will center on transportation design—including alignments, profiles, grading, drainage, utilities, and PA&ED and PS&E packages—within a collaborative, remotefirst environment that values expertise and accountability.

What You’ll Do
- Lead transportation and rail projects from planning through construction
- Manage and mentor engineers and designers, fostering technical growth and quality
- Direct and review civil designs for alignments, grading, drainage, and utilities
- Oversee preparation and review of construction drawings, specifications, and PS&E packages
- Guide advanced stormwater, hydrologic, and hydraulic analyses
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, and subconsultants to support permitting and approvals
- Lead project meetings and ensure schedules, budgets, and technical standards are met
What You Bring
- Active California PE license (Civil)
- 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation civil design and project delivery
- Proven ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and manage technical deliverables
- Strong proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Deep understanding of transportation design standards and QA/QC practices
- Selfdirected and effective in a remote work environment
- A longterm mindset for leadership and professional growth
