Staff Accountant

About Shaw Media:
Shaw Media publishes over 150 titles in Illinois and Iowa. Its holdings include websites, newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and a digital marketing services division. Founded in Dixon, Illinois, Shaw Media has been privately owned by the Shaw family since its inception in 1851.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare month-end close for various publications which includes accruals, cash reconciliations, sales journals, expense entries, and bank account reconciliations, etc.
• Maintain various schedules, ie. prepaid, rent, lease, etc.
• Prepare and post general journal entries insuring accuracy and proper backup to the GL.
• Work on various annual audit documents that are needed in coordination with outside audit firm
• Participation in the annual budgets
• Prepare and create various financial reports in both SBS and Excel

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
• Excel user
• Experience with various accounting software systems. We currently use Vision Data, BNA Fixed Asset System and SBS.

The successful candidates must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

In Office: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm
Salary: $20-$25.00 / Hour
