Vice President – Energy Business Unit Leader 

Location: Dallas, TX 
Travel: 30–50%

Our client, a nationally recognized general contractor with a strong reputation in mission-critical construction, is launching a new Energy Business Unit focused on privately funded power generation and distributed energy infrastructure.

This executive will serve as the founding leader of the division and will be responsible for building and scaling a national platform focused on fast-track, technically complex energy projects including:

  • On-site power generation
  • Microgrids
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Natural gas generation
  • Cogeneration facilities
  • Bridging power solutions
  • Distributed energy infrastructure

This is a rare opportunity to build a new vertical inside an established, financially strong organization with the resources, autonomy, and executive support to scale a high-growth business unit.

Position Summary

The Vice President – Energy Business Unit Leader will have full P&L responsibility and will lead strategy, business development, operations, and organizational buildout for the energy platform. This individual will be responsible for developing market strategy, building key partnerships, recruiting leadership talent, and driving disciplined, profitable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the growth strategy for the Energy Business Unit
  • Own full P&L responsibility including forecasting, budgeting, and financial performance
  • Develop market positioning and service offerings within the power generation sector
  • Build strategic partnerships with OEMs, engineering firms, and equipment providers
  • Establish a scalable operational roadmap from startup phase through national expansion

Business Development

  • Lead client acquisition strategy across hyperscale, industrial, and private energy developers
  • Develop relationships with developers, data center operators, and industrial clients
  • Identify and pursue opportunities in distributed generation and storage markets
  • Position the organization as a preferred EPC/hybrid EPC partner for energy infrastructure projects
  • Drive pipeline development and revenue growth initiatives

Operations & Project Delivery

  • Establish delivery processes tailored to energy EPC projects
  • Build preconstruction, estimating, procurement, and project execution capabilities
  • Lead hiring of key operational leadership roles
  • Ensure execution aligns with safety, quality, and schedule expectations
  • Implement project financial controls and risk management practices

Organizational Development

  • Recruit and develop leadership across operations, preconstruction, and business development
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability and collaboration
  • Develop technical capabilities related to power construction and commissioning
  • Create scalable organizational structure and succession planning

Financial & Risk Management

  • Manage business unit financial performance and reporting
  • Oversee project margin performance and cost controls
  • Monitor risk exposure across projects and contracts
  • Provide executive reporting on growth strategy and financial performance

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in power generation construction, EPC, or energy infrastructure
  • Experience leading a division, business unit, or regional operation with P&L ownership
  • Proven success developing business and winning energy or infrastructure projects
  • Experience delivering fast-track or mission-critical construction projects
  • Demonstrated success building and leading technical teams
