Responsibilities:
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections of machined components using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Record and maintain accurate inspection results by preparing inspection reports and maintaining quality documentation.
- Identify non-conforming materials or components and assist in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Conduct supplier incoming inspections and first-piece inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Support the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and monitor supplier quality performance.
- Inspect welds including MIG, TIG, Spot, and Stud welding to ensure quality, technique, and adherence to specifications.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections according to job packets, travelers, and workmanship standards.
- Inspect incoming raw materials and evaluate products received from outside services and suppliers.
- Conduct final inspections of finished products to verify that all operations meet job and customer specifications.
- Document and report deviations or nonconformances and coordinate with project managers and supervisors for resolution.
- Complete required documentation for job completion and process scrap or nonconforming materials.
- Recommend process improvements and assist in educating operators on quality and safe work practices.
- Verify accurate part counts and maintain inspection fixtures, gauges, and measuring equipment to ensure reliable measurements.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers via phone and email to ensure clear and consistent updates.
- Collaborate proactively with team members and support departmental workflow and production goals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of four years of experience in fabrication or a related manufacturing environment; a combination of formal training and hands-on experience may be considered.
- Knowledge and experience in welding processes including creation, inspection, and testing; AWS certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and understand required materials and fabrication processes.
- Familiarity with automotive-class finishes and required metal preparation techniques.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as Epicor and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to manage tasks independently while supporting team objectives.
- Understanding of fabrication workflow and production processes within a manufacturing environment.
- Physical ability to lift, push, or pull 25 pounds or more on a regular basis.
- Willingness to take on challenges, contribute ideas for process improvements, and support team goals with minimal supervision.
