Job Description


HTI is seeking an experienced Assistant Plant Controller for a manufacturing company located near Thomasville, NC. This position supports the plant's financial operations with a strong emphasis on hands-on operational costing and manufacturing variance ownership. The role partners closely with plant operations to ensure accurate standard costing, variance analysis, and production cost visibility. This position is Direct Hire, M-F 1st shift. The salary range is $75,000 - $115,000 depending on experience.

What You Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2-4 years of accounting or finance experience (manufacturing environment strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated hands-on ownership of standard costing and operational variance modeling
  • Direct experience with:
    • Standard cost builds and cost roll processes
    • BOM and routing validation
    • Manufacturing variance analysis (material, labor, and overhead)
    • Absorption and work center analysis
    • Scrap and yield modeling tied to manufacturing lines
  • Strong understanding of financial and cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP experience preferred)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate financial and operational data clearly across departments
  • Detail-oriented, transparent, and team-oriented mindset
What Your Role Will Look Like:

The Assistant Plant Controller will play a key role in the financial management and operational success of the facility, with direct responsibility for plant-level costing accuracy and variance analysis.

  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
  • Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports to monitor plant performance
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process with a strong cost focus
  • Own and maintain standard costs, cost rolls, and inventory valuations
  • Perform detailed manufacturing variance analysis, including material, labor, overhead, absorption, and work center performance
  • Analyze and explain production variances, scrap, yield, and efficiency trends tied to manufacturing lines
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering on BOM and routing accuracy
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, SOX, and corporate accounting standards
  • Collaborate with plant leadership to drive productivity, cost control, and profitability
  • Identify and implement process improvements to improve costing accuracy and reporting efficiency
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring financial compliance and accuracy
  • Provide actionable financial insights to management to support strategic and operational decisions
