Job Description
Are you looking for an accounting role where your work helps shape the future of students, faculty, and the campus community?
Our client, UNVERSITY OF PROVIDENCE, a mission-driven organization located in Great Falls, Montana, is seeking a UNIVERSITY ACCOUNTANT to help ensure strong financial stewardship, accurate reporting, and thoughtful analysis that allow the organization to remain focused on advancing its mission and serving its community. This role plays a vital part in supporting the financial foundation that enables academic excellence, student success, and long-term institutional sustainability.
In this position, you will be responsible for supporting the University’s accounting operations by managing the monthly close process, including preparing journal entries, reviewing operating statements, and completing detailed account reconciliations. You will investigate variances, resolve discrepancies, and ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and properly documented. This role also includes preparing cash projections, assisting with treasury functions, and maintaining strong financial controls. You will work closely with the Controller by providing clear, reliable financial analysis that supports reporting, planning, and sound decisionmaking across the institution.
The successful candidate will bring a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), along with a minimum of three years of detailed accounting experience. Expertise with general ledger accounting, monthend close activities, and account reconciliations is required, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is important, and experience working in an ERP or accounting system, including Jenzabar, is a plus. Experience in a higher education or nonprofit environment is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
If you are looking to join a team where your expertise will shape the future of a missiondriven university, the University of Providence position is the opportunity for you. EOE
