SUMMARY

Under the authority of the Assistant-Director of IT Services, the incumbent ensures the proper functioning of all activities and services related to information technology. The incumbent installs and maintains software, performs preventive maintenance, diagnoses issues with micro-computers, provides recommendations, and ensures the proper functioning of servers, network connections, and IT infrastructure.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide technical support to users (35%)
  • Provide technical assistance to administrative staff, professors, and students;
  • Manage user accounts for the network and email;
  • Maintain up-to-date inventories of IT equipment;
  • Install and repair audiovisual equipment for various activities and events;
  • Diagnose software, operating system, hardware, and other technical issues.
Install and update micro-computers and components (25%)
  • Install, verify, and update software on micro-computers;
  • Troubleshoot micro-computers and related components;
  • Recommend, install, and maintain servers and micro-computers.
Maintain IT systems and network environments (15%)
  • Maintain core systems (virtual servers, antivirus, backups, network link with the University of Ottawa, web server services, etc.);
  • Provide basic assistance for institutional systems (PaperCut, Raiser's Edge, Sage, Event Pro, student network, library labs, financial and HR systems, Kantech, etc.);
  • Support the implementation of IT policies and procedures;
  • Monitor and support operation of network components (switches, cabling, etc.);
  • Test and implement system changes;
  • Document installation and user procedures.
Manage the network and its components (10%)
  • Ensure continuous service of the University's network infrastructure and servers;
  • Recommend, install, and maintain network components;
  • Monitor performance, perform backups, diagnostics, and repairs;
  • Ensure system and data security.
Analyze, evaluate and improve systems (10%)
  • Stay up to date on new technologies.
  • Automate and integrate systems requiring programming and the use of development environments;
  • Ensure equipment and software are used effectively;
  • Identify and promote improvements to enhance IT usage;
  • Provide proactive solutions and make recommendations to the supervisor;
  • Participate in short- and medium-term strategic IT planning;
  • Attend IT Reps meetings and collaborate with University of Ottawa IT services.
IT Training (5%)
  • Identify training needs and inform the supervisor;
  • Serve as an resource person for users.
Various
  • Perform any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor ;

  • Overtime: In emergencies, may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • College diploma in computing.
  • Experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting for micro-computers, computer equipment and software.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office software, Windows operating systems and knowledge of Apple products.
  • Knowledge of SCCM.
  • Knowledge of programming and development environments;
  • Knowledge of enterprise networks and protocols.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and protection of sensitive data.
