SUMMARY

A leading energy organization is seeking a Senior Advisor – Refining Economics & Performance to support strategic decision-making across refining and commercial operations. This role sits at the intersection of refining economics, operational performance, and executive leadership, translating complex operational, commercial, and market data into clear insights that guide strategy across the value chain.

The Senior Advisor is NOT a reporting or business intelligence analyst, but a senior partner who closely interacts and oversees internal analytical teams that develop economic models, performance reporting, and operational analysis.  Rather than serving as the primary analyst, this role interprets analytical outputs, helps refine data quality and analytical models, and synthesizes findings into executive-ready insights delivered directly to senior leadership to inform refinery performance, commercial strategy, and optimization decisions.

The ideal candidate is a senior refinery operations professional with a lengthy refinery background that can interpret analytical findings, strengthen the underlying analytical framework, and communicate performance implications with clarity and credibility to operational and commercial decision makers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consolidate cross-functional refining data to provide a unified view of refining value chain performance.
  • Interpret outputs from LP models and economic analyses to identify strategic implications.
  • Present refining performance insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Serve as a bridge between analytics teams and executives, translating technical findings into clear business insights.
  • Partner with analysts to strengthen models, dashboards, and performance reporting.
  • Collaborate with operations, IT, and finance to align metrics and maintain a reliable “single source of truth” for data.
  • Monitor key operational and commercial metrics while supporting forecasting, planning, and analyst guidance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
  • 8 years of experience in refining, downstream energy operations, or refinery economics.
  • Strong understanding of refinery processes, performance drivers, and value chain economics.
  • Ability to translate complex analytical findings into strategic business insights for leadership
  • Experience interpreting outputs from refinery LP models and economic analysis
  • Strong financial acumen; ability to interpret operational data in commercial market context.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exposure to LP modeling or refinery optimization tools is a strong plus.
  • Experience with analytics or data platforms such as Power BI, Alteryx a plus.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and provide leadership across analytical initiatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily office-based in Dallas with occasional visits to refinery or operational facilities. Limited travel may be required depending on project needs.
