Position Summary

The Hospice Regional Executive of Clinical Operations is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Hospice Regional Executive of Clinical Operations assesses the quality of care provided to hospice patients, families, and staff. S/he monitors documentation, compiles monthly reports, and works closely with program leadership. The Hospice Regional Executive of Clinical Operations is responsible for the clinical outcomes of their hospice locations.

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Advises and collaborates with Hospice Program Management (Hospice Area Executive of Clinical Operations and Hospice Director of Clinical Services) to address areas of improvement regarding clinical documentation and patient care.
  • Partners with each program in assigned region to determine needs. Coordinates frequency of intentional site visits to meet the identified needs of each program and documents assessment and follow up plans for improvement.
  • Maintains expertise in clinical knowledge of pain and symptom management and end of life care. Utilizes clinical knowledge to coach and mentor clinical leaders to drive clinical excellence and outcomes.
  • Ensures training and education are provided at the program level by collaborating with hospice program leadership and the Hospice Director of Quality Outcomes.
  • As needed with alignment with the Hospice Regional Vice President, provides day-to-day support via phone, email, or visits to Hospice Program Management and teammates concerning outstanding issues of patient care, appropriateness, and compliance.
  • Provides support via phone or visit as needed for state/federal/accrediting surveys.
  • Develops, in coordination with Hospice Program Management, plans of correction in the areas of clinical compliance. Subsequently monitors the hospice programs execution of plans of correction.
  • Advises the Hospice Area Executive in alignment with the Hospice Regional Vice President regarding the clinical and compliance needs/concerns of each program.
  • Follows Compassus policy and procedure related to clinical and compliance needs/concerns of hospice programs.
  • Reviews and recommends revisions to policies and procedures in accordance with updated state and accrediting body standards.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Participates in governing body oversight with the Hospice Director of Quality Outcomes to achieve excellence in quality and service.
  • Ensures compliance with clinical and operational policies, procedures and processes.
  • Collaborates with hospice program, area, and regional leadership to analyze and strategize methods to achieve clinical and operational metrics.
  • Collaborates with hospice program, area, and regional leadership in the selection, onboarding, development and retention of new leaders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in direct Quality Improvement (QI) or management/leadership experience in a hospice program preferred.
  • Hospital and home health leadership experience will be considered.
  • Experience managing multi-sites in different geographic locations preferred.
  • Resides in Region of oversight preferred.

Skills

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy. Thorough understanding of the Medicare Regulations for Hospice. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the functions of a hospice organization. Excellent communication skills. Competency in general nursing theory, techniques and practice. Must be able to travel frequently by car and air. Professionalism, sound judgment and effective communications skills are required. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information such as patient records. Role requires 50% travel across the United States including all time zones and weather conditions.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in state of employment, in addition to every state in the Region this role will be covering required.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
