Position Overview
The Commercial Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, subcontractors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing estimates of the cost of materials, labor and equipment for a construction project
- Review plans, drawings, and specifications to determine material, labor, and subcontractor requirements.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids
- Prepare detailed scope sheets and bid packages
- Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain updated pricing and availability.
- Communicate clearly with customers, project managers, and sales staff regarding estimates, assumptions, and exclusions.
- Work on multiple company bids simultaneously and deliver in accordance with deadline objectives.
- Maintain organized records of quotes, pricing data, and project files in company databases
- Anticipate potential cost or scheduling issues and proactively address them.
- Work in alignment with Project Managers to ensure efficient execution, on-time delivery, and cost control.
Travel Requirements
- Less than 15%
- This position covers job sites across the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas. This role may occasionally require travel out of town.
Qualifications & Skills
- BSc/BA degree in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or another related field
- Proven experience estimating construction projects.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Customer-focused mindset with professionalism and reliability.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, coworkers, and vendors
- Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities.
- Able to read, understand and follow required construction documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
