Job Description
Wisconsin Public Service, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Design Specialist - Gas & Electric Utilities in our Wausau, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by Local No. 420 IUOE.
Job Responsibilities
The main focus of this position is electric and gas system design work including design of:
- Duct jobs
- Dual feeds
- Electric three phase extensions of more than 1 mile in a city or village limit
- Industrial parks that includes more than 2 fused pads or switch gears
- Road moves at an estimated project cost at or above $100,000
- Electric three phase reconstructions of more than ½ mile in a city or village limit
- Electric three phase reconstructions of more than 1 mile outside a city or village limit
- Conversions at an estimated project cost at or above $100,000
- Major communications make-ready projects at an estimated project cost at or above $100,000
- Gas system, service, and upgrades over 4” nominal diameter
- Gas renewals over 4” nominal diameter
- Gas relocations over 4” nominal diameter
- Gas reconstructions over 4” nominal diameter
- Gas system improvements over 4” nominal diameter
- Gas road moves over 4” nominal diameter
- Gas industrial parks over 4” nominal diameter
- Any Designer 1 or Designer 2 task
- Other duties as assigned
This is a company-wide position which provides specialized support to the entire WPS service territory.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement:
- Technical degree or higher in one of the following disciplines: Electric Power Distribution or Gas Utility Construction and Service
OR - Associate degree or equivalent education in one of the following disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, Civil engineering or other associate degree programs that align with those previously named or equivalent Armed Forces training
OR - Completion of a state indentured utility design apprenticeship
OR - In lieu of meeting one of the education requirements above, a minimum of 4 years equivalent utility design experience is required in electric, gas or communications facilities
- Technical degree or higher in one of the following disciplines: Electric Power Distribution or Gas Utility Construction and Service
Experience Required:
Candidate must have experience in each of the following categories:
- 1+ years’ working with Microsoft products
- 3+ years’ customer contact experience in one of the following areas: utility, construction, industrial, or commercial
- 4+ years of utility design of electric and/or gas commercial/industrial facilities
- Valid Drivers License
Testing Requirements
- Technician Selection System (TECH)-Technician level: Ability to use numerical information presented in drawings, prints, and graphs to solve arithmetic problems, ability to use symbols and codes to locate objects on a map, comprehension of pictured mechanical principles, and the ability to read, apply rules and make decisions based upon written information.
