Your Impact at SAM

The Field Supervisor reports to the Field Coordinator and Field Operations Manager and is responsible for performing advanced technical fieldwork while supervising field staff and supporting assigned projects. This role works under limited direction and exercises independent judgment in coordinating daily field operations, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company-assigned equipment, including commercial motor vehicles, survey instruments, and related tools, in accordance with company policies and safety standards

  • Perform substantial technical field data collection to support assigned projects

  • Exhibit professional and courteous interaction with client representatives, landowners, and the public

  • Read, interpret, and prepare plans at a high level related to assigned field tasks

  • Ensure assigned vehicles are properly equipped and stocked with all required tools and supplies

  • Accurately complete and review daily timesheets, reports, and field documentation, ensuring timely submission and compliance with company standards

  • Approve field staff time entries, per diem requests, and expense documentation, in accordance with company policies

  • Perform and oversee routine and substantial maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and equipment

  • Gather and document site features and relevant field information to support project requirements

  • Read maps and utilize electronic navigation equipment to promote accuracy and efficiency in the field

  • Select and apply appropriate equipment and techniques to accurately execute complex field layouts

  • Assist in the implementation of approved project plans and field procedures

Supervision & Leadership

  • Directly supervise and coordinate the work of assigned field technicians and crew members, taking full responsibility for productivity, quality, and safety

  • Provide clear instructions, guidance, and oversight to field staff on a daily basis

  • Deliver accurate and thorough training and coaching to multiple staff members at a time

  • Monitor field performance and address issues related to work quality, safety, attendance, and conduct

  • Aid in coordinating field schedules and assignments in collaboration with Field Coordinators and Operations Management

  • Serve as a point of contact between field crews and office staff to ensure efficient project execution

Technical & Administrative Duties

  • Record measurements and descriptive data using field notes, drawings, sketches, and electronic data collection systems

  • Operate and manage field computer systems for data storage, inquiries, and report generation

  • Work independently when required and exercise sound judgment in the field

  • Ability to travel as required


What You Bring to SAM

  • Relevant field experience required
  • High school diploma or GED certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Advanced knowledge of identifying and using various types of field equipment required
  • Demonstrates strong and collaborative work ethic
  • Strong and effective communication within multiple levels of an organization is required
