Job Description

We are looking for a System Administrator to join our growing team. This role involves providing technical support for transit scheduling systems, such as Trapeze or HASTUS, and ensuring effective provisioning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware and software, as well as related infrastructure. This role will be full time and onsite in Hyattsville, MD.

What You'll Do

  • Learn the HASTUS system to provide ongoing support to the Bus and Rail Scheduling Operations teams

  • Review security scan results and develop mitigation steps for vulnerabilities at the server and application levels

  • Manage provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer hardware/software and infrastructure

  • Assist and lead teams in migrating existing environments to the cloud using technologies like Azure and OCI

  • Ensure systems adhere to agency policies, standards, and guidelines

  • Perform systems administration, engineering, provisioning, operations, support, maintenance, and research for continual innovation

  • Conduct daily system monitoring to verify hardware integrity, server resources, systems availability, and key processes

  • Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs like backups

  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify potential intrusions

  • Handle daily backup operations and file archival/purge as needed

  • Manage user accounts, including creation, modification, and deletion upon request

  • Provide Tier III/other support as needed and troubleshoot issues

  • Diagnose and recover from hardware or software failures, while effectively communicating with stakeholders

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly, updating administrative tools/utilities as required

  • Configure and add new services as necessary

  • Maintain operational documentation and perform performance reporting for capacity planning

What You'll Need

Required:

  • 8+ years of experience managing Windows and Linux systems

  • 8+ years of experience upgrading, installing, and configuring application software and hardware

  • 8+ years of experience in troubleshooting and providing technical support for servers and networks

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Masters degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • Expertise in cloud technologies, such as Azure and OCI, and experience migrating environments to the cloud

  • Familiarity with transit scheduling systems, specifically Trapeze and HASTUS

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and applicable federal, state, and local standards

  • Primarily sedentary work, involving sitting or remaining stationary for extended periods, with occasional movement within the office environment

  • Ability to perform repetitive computerbased tasks, including use of a keyboard, mouse, and monitor

$40 - $46 per hour

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
