Job Description
News 3 Now is looking for a Weekend Sports Anchor/MMJ to join our team in "America's greatest college sports town" - Madison, Wisconsin. Our sports department aggressively covers the Wisconsin Badgers, the Green Bay Packers, and local high school sports. We're looking for a dynamic, high-energy, engaging storyteller who can go beyond the scores and connect with both hardcore sports fans and casual viewers.
What You'll Do
· Work closely with and report to the Sports Director
· Anchor weekend sports segments with credibility, poise, personality and strong live presence
· Publish content and engage audiences across web, mobile and social platforms; contribute photos, video and text updates throughout the day
· Bring the energy of live reporting to the anchor desk and into the field
· Enterprise exclusive stories and develop unique, compelling sports content
· Shoot and edit highlights, press conferences and feature stories
· Plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news and special project assignments
· Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, accentuate enterprise angles and include exclusive content
· Develop and maintain a strong network of sources to break stories of significance
· Write and edit scripts with viewer interaction and digital engagement in mind
· Work with producers and reporters to build up the big sports stories of the day
· Summarize complex information into clear, easy-to-understand components
· Operate mobile transmission devices and use the latest newsgathering technology
· Juggle multiple stories and projects at once while consistently meeting deadlines
· Appear on behalf of the station at public events and be an active presence in the community
Qualifications
· B.S. degree in Journalism or a related field (or equivalent experience; related military experience considered)
· Demo reel that accurately reflects your everyday work
· Strong on-air presence that connects with viewers, with the versatility to both anchor and report
· Broad knowledge of sporting events and a genuine enthusiasm for sharing that passion with viewers
· Knowledge of journalistic standards and ethics, especially as they relate to on-air presentation of sports stories
· Excellent, accurate and comprehensive writing skills, including for broadcast and digital
· Ability to generate non-traditional, creative approaches to sports storytelling
· Proven ability to develop sources, enterprise stories and ask tough, accountability-focused questions
· Strong live reporting skills, able to work fast and efficiently under tight deadlines
· Eagerness to be actively involved in the local community
Additional Requirements
· Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and other field technology
· Able to work in all weather conditions and work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends
· Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
· Valid driver's license and a clear driving record
