Job Summary
Job Description
4-Day Work Week - Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday schedule.
Operates road tractors/trailers in support of Metro’s Biosolids Management Program. Ensures that all transport and handling activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for Class A CDL operators. Works under the direction of a supervisor and/or RR&R Lead Operator while exercising independent judgment to carry out assignments safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and operational standards.
Examples of Duties:
- Operates heavy road tractors with trailers and/or tandem dump trucks in the transportation of Biosolids in accordance with Metro’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Comply with DOT requirements for Class A CDL operators, including pre-trip/post-trip inspections, load securement, hours-of-service rules, maintaining driver qualification files, and accurate completion of logs, manifests, and other required documentation.
- Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections, checking and servicing equipment for diesel, gasoline, oil, and water. Make minor mechanical adjustments and emergency repairs as necessary. Maintains equipment in good physical condition and promptly reports mechanical defects.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of daily operations, including transport logs, biosolids application data, and any compliance-related documentation required by EPA 503, CDPHE, and DOT regulations.
- Follows all safety protocols, environmental standards, and SOPs to ensure compliance and protect public health, safety, and the environment.
- Participation in RR&R training opportunities and activities.
- May operate heavy equipment such as dozers, graders, loaders, and scrapers to support biosolids management operations in compliance with applicable regulations.
- May operate heavy road tractors with lowboys to transport and position heavy equipment at project sites in compliance with DOT load securement and weight-limit standards.
- May operate agricultural equipment required for biosolids land application, including biosolids applicators, tractors, plows, cultivators, crop sprayers, and seeding equipment, ensuring all activities meet regulatory standards.
- May operate Giddings drilling equipment for soil sampling to support compliance with agronomic rate calculations and regulatory monitoring requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Basic preventive maintenance, inspections, and emergency repair procedures for heavy trucks, trailers, and related equipment
- Safe operation and normal/abnormal functions of tractor/trailers and heavy equipment
- Computer systems and technology that are used to record, track, and report operational data
- Microsoft Office software
Skilled in:
- Operating road tractors, trailers, and related equipment safely and efficiently under varying conditions
- Communicating clearly and effectively using multiple methods (verbal, written, and digital) to ensure the accurate exchange of information
- Basic computer knowledge of DOT logs and record keeping
Ability to:
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high safety and compliance standards
- Follow written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently
- Maintain a variety of written logs and reports.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the farm community, co-workers, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Collaborate effectively in a team environment to achieve operational goals
Education
Graduation from high school or GED and valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are required.
