Salary: Commensurate with experience and schedule
Weekly Hours: Full-Time (Negotiable)
Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to serve as a Veterinarian in Houston Humane Society’s new public Veterinary Clinic. You will:
- Work in a brand new, fully-equipped, 10,000 sq ft public clinic with highly skilled staff.
- Perform services such as high-volume spay and neuter, general exams, diagnostics, dentistry, lab work, and vaccinations. As specialties allow, orthopedics and other procedures can be added to our capabilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform all duties of a DVM as sanctioned by Texas state law.
- Determine nature of disease or injury by examining pets.
- Perform surgical procedures and provide anesthesia services.
- Order and evaluate laboratory tests.
- Provide training for personnel and volunteers related to animal care, nutrition, breeding, sanitation, and techniques for handling animals with a broad range of temperaments.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate records.
- Plan and conduct continuing animal health education.
- Collaborate with other agency departments and staff to ensure continuity of care.
- All other duties that arise in the course of daily operations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Requires a Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine. Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medicine. License must also include DPS and FDA controlled substance licensure.
- Maintain current DVM license in good standing.
- Knowledge of Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.
- Strong client service skills.
- Strong leadership, communication and motivations skills. Has the ability to direct, guide and assist a group of individuals.
- Spanish language skills both written and spoken preferred, but not required.
