GIS Intern

JOB OVERVIEW: The City of Upper Arlington, Ohio has one full-time (35 - 40 hours per week) GIS Internship position open during the summer from approximately May to September or otherwise agreed upon terms. Typical reporting hours for this position are 7:30am - 3:30pm EST.

The intern will report to the GIS Administrator in the Public Service Department.

During this internship, you will gain hands-on experience mapping a variety of city assets , including utility infrastructure (storm, sanitary, water, electric), park amenities , special events , and construction maintenance-of-traffic plans . You will also develop skills in creating map layouts and interactive web maps , reviewing construction plans and as-builts , and learning how local government leverages ArcGIS Online to support daily operations .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

The intern will assist the citys GIS and Public Service Departments with various tasks, including:

• Data and Map Creation, using Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

• Editing and Analysis

• Field Data Collection

• Records Research

• Performs related duties as required by supervision

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a recent graduate or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in GIS, Geography or a related field

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs

• Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

• Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance

• Must be at least 18 years old

• Must possess a valid drivers license

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work.
