As a Design Engineer II at WM, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, design and development of highway and roadway projects while collaborating closely with other departments. This role involves preparing deigns and technical calculations in accordance with state and local standards.
Essential Functions:

Perform roadway and highway design tasks for transportation projects, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and typical sections.
Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs for highway improvement projects.
Develop construction plans, specifications, and technical documentation in accordance with DOT and local agency standards.
Utilize design software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and related tools to produce design deliverables.
Coordinate with project managers, senior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to meet project schedules and quality standards.
Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals to support construction phase services as needed.
Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate comments into final deliverables.

QualificationsQualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree required
Engineer-In-Training Registration preferred
3-5 years of experience with roadway design
Experience with design software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Civil 3D, AutoCAD
Familiar with VDOT standards, manual and specifications.
