Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of automotive soft trim systems.
  • Execute engineering specifications, customer requirements, industry standards, and governmental regulations.
  • Manage Trim Product Data Management (TPDM) or equivalent, including Program IDs, sewing components, materials, BOM creation, and color matrix maintenance.
  • Develop patterns and markers using Optitex PDS or equivalent software.
  • Collaborate closely with OEM design studios to ensure styling themes and specifications are met.
  • Order, manage, and track soft trim development materials, sample shop tools, and equipment.
  • Provide Phase 1 support including initial costing analysis, quoting, and scope definition.
  • Support foam A-surface design to meet seating comfort, styling, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Review design inputs and drawings to ensure completeness and alignment with project deliverables.
  • Create and maintain DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, and PPAP documentation.
  • Maintain sewing specifications and appearance guidelines for cut-and-sew trim components.
  • Develop prototype BOMs, tooling requirements, and internal/external project specifications.
  • Create and release trim cover drawings, paper patterns, and digitized patterns.
  • Determine material usage, scrap rates, and trim cover BOMs.
  • Support manufacturing engineers with sewing process development and layout optimization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve trim-related issues through formal complaint management processes.
  • Support benchmarking, teardown analysis, fitment validation, and one-off installation measurements.
  • Coordinate embroidery and logo development.
  • Support production feasibility, supplier training, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards including ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14000.

Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Trim Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of trim engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with foam skiving, A-surface management, and comfort/styling validation.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive cut-and-sew construction techniques, materials, laminations, retainers, and attachment strategies.
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, DFM/A, APQP, PPAP, 8D, benchmarking, VA/VE, and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and CATIA V5.
  • Familiarity with ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14000, and 5S processes.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and presentation skills.

Computer Skills:
