Construction Controller

Location: In-Office – McKinney, TX

Role Overview

The Construction Controller is a senior accounting and finance professional dedicated exclusively to Procopio Companies. While employed and managed by The Finance Squad, this role functions as the internal Controller for Procopio, overseeing all construction accounting operations, financial reporting, and controls across projects and entities.

This position is responsible for ensuring accurate job costing, timely closes, cash flow visibility, and scalable financial processes aligned with Procopio’s growth.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Accounting & Job Costing

• Oversee job cost accounting across all active construction projects

• Ensure accurate cost coding, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion reporting, and change order tracking

• Review and approve job cost adjustments, accruals, and reallocations

• Partner with project managers to provide clear, actionable financial insight on project performance

Financial Reporting & Close

• Own the monthly close process, including reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation

• Deliver timely and accurate financial statements to Procopio leadership

• Maintain consistency in accounting policies and procedures across entities

• Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses

Cash Flow & Forecasting

• Monitor project-level and company-wide cash flow

• Coordinate with AP/AR functions to optimize cash timing

• Assist with forecasting working capital needs related to construction cycles

Controls, Compliance & Process Improvement

• Establish and maintain internal controls over construction accounting

• Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction accounting standards

• Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and tax professionals

• Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable accounting processes

Leadership & Collaboration

• Act as the primary accounting liaison between Procopio and The Finance Squad

• Provide guidance and oversight to AP, AR, and accounting support staff

• Support executive decision-making with clear financial insights

Qualifications

• 7+ years of accounting experience, with significant construction accounting exposure

• Prior Controller or Senior Accounting Manager experience preferred

• Deep understanding of job costing, WIP, and construction financial reporting

• Experience with construction accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Procore integrations, or similar)

• Strong Excel and financial modeling skills

• Ability to work in-office and collaborate closely with operations teams
