POSITION: SCHOOL NURSE
RESPONSIBLE TO: SUPERINTENDENT/DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES

JOB GOAL: To organize and coordinate a district-wide school health program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university
One to four years related experience
R.N. licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing
Certification in CPR
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
To determine health status of students by means of health appraisal which include:
Height and weight as an assessment of growth development and nutritional status.
Vision screening
Hearing screening
Dental inspection
Objective appraisal of personal hygiene and physical appearance
Evaluation of immunization and health history.
To serve as a resource person to all school personnel in matters of health education.
Be available for integrating health teaching at all grade levels via reference materials, audio visual aids, lectures, and discussions.
Provide in-service education health instruction to health aides, educational aides, teachers and other staff as needed.
To maintain counseling and follow-up with pupils, parents, and school personnel for health problems (physical, mental, or emotional) according to the demands of the specific case.
To be responsible for interpreting medical data in terms of the academic application for the child to teachers, parents, guidance personnel and principals.
To keep the school psychologist, guidance, and social worker personnel informed of the progress of all cases which should be called to their attention (i.e. Special Education or Section 504 related).
To work collaboratively with health aides, principals, teachers and all concerned personnel by keeping them informed of the health status of pupils; oversight of health clinics/health aides.
To provide direct oversight of all health aides within the district, including training and maintenance of all health clinics.
Ride with students by ambulance for medical treatment, as needed.
To be a liaison between school, home, physicians, and community agencies concerning health matters.
To assist the school principal, attendance personnel and clerical staff in the control and the reporting of communicable diseases among the students.
To assist in implementing health and safety regulations as they apply to laboratories, shops, lunch rooms and food handling personnel.
Assist in reviewing health related policies and procedures that will be implemented at the district level.
To support the work of the school based health center through direct collaboration.
Perform such other duties as may be directed by the administration and/or Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the
Superintendent or designee.
