Job Summary

This position is part of Finance and reports to the Vice President of Tax. The Senior Manager of Indirect Tax is a hands-on, detailoriented tax professional responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect tax compliance, reporting, technology, and audits. This role manages multi-state sales and use tax, outsourced compliance for business licenses and tangible personal property (TPP) tax, and works closely with Finance, IT, and Operations to ensure accurate tax calculation and reporting. The ideal candidate has strong technical experience, excels with data and systems, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Indirect Tax Compliance & Reporting

o Manage outsourced compliance for sales tax, business licenses, and TPP tax, ensuring accurate data flow and timely filings.

o Ensure preparation, funding, and timely remittance of indirect tax payments.

o Conduct tax research to support indirect tax compliance, planning, system changes, and business initiatives with appropriate documentation.

o Implement controls to ensure filings are timely and accurate.

o Maintain exemption and resale certificate processes. Review/prepare jurisdictional tax registrations.

o Monitor changes in indirect tax laws and ensure compliance across all jurisdictions.

o Lead monthly and quarterly indirect tax activities, including providing data and analysis for accruals, reserves, and budget planning.

o Adhere to all company safety policies and support a culture of high quality and strong customer service.

o Perform other duties as assigned or required.

· Audit Management

o Serve as the primary contact for indirect tax audits, including sales/use, business license, and TPP audits.

o Gather and analyze data, prepare responses, manage issue resolution, and negotiate audit conclusions.

o Maintain organized, auditready documentation to minimize exposure.

· Systems, Data, & Process Ownership

o Support configuration, maintenance, and accuracy of Vertex Cloud as the company's indirect tax engine.

o Partner with IT and Operations to ensure accurate tax determination within the internally developed POS system.

o Lead testing and validation for system changes, new products, jurisdiction updates, and taxability rule changes.

o Gather, extract, and reconcile data from the company's general ledger system (SAP) and procurement system (Coupa) to support compliance, audits, accruals, and data validations.

o Develop and improve automated processes, reporting dashboards, and controls around tax calculations and filings; reduce manual work, and enhance reporting accuracy.

· Leadership, Communication & CrossFunctional Partnership

o Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance, IT, Legal, Operations, and other internal teams on indirect tax matters.

o Proactively communicate and keep immediate supervisor informed of key issues, risks, project status, audit developments, and emerging tax obligations.

o Identify tax risks, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation or scalability.

o Mentor and support indirect tax staff and manage external advisors and outsourced compliance vendors.

Education:

HS Diploma or GED

4 Year bachelor's degree in accounting

Experience Requirement

· 6-10 years of progressive indirect tax experience with strong multistate sales and use tax background.

· Hands-on experience managing indirect tax compliance, outsourced filings, and audits.

· Experience with indirect tax engines such as Vertex Cloud.

· Ability to gather and analyze tax data from general ledger and procurement systems.

· Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with large data sets.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across departments.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, and followthrough.

· Experience using Vertex or similar tax engine, analyzing output, ensuring proper mapping.

· Intermediate to Advanced computer operation

o Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

o Proficiency in using general ledger systems; SAP preferred

· Research experience in federal, state, and local laws for this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Directly supervises team members within the Finance-Tax function.

· Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

· Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Location/Work Environment:

For remote team members, HIPAA compliant home office environment. Ability to work in a remote environment while performing required duties and remaining patient focused. Able to work varying shifts including early mornings/evenings to attend meetings and cross training or support other initiatives
