The College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for an Orthodontic Dental Technician. The Orthodontic Dental Technician performs advanced laboratory procedures within the graduate orthodontic clinic, specializing in the fabrication of custom orthodontic appliances. This role bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, requiring mastery of classic manual techniques alongside a commitment to implementing 3D printing and digital workflows. The technician plays a vital role in supporting patient care and enhancing the clinical education of orthodontic residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Appliance Fabrication: Construct a diverse range of complex orthodontic appliances, including, but not limited to, Essix retainers, expanders, space maintainers, functional appliances, and high-quality diagnostic study casts.
Digital Integration: Operate and maintain 3D printing systems, including wash and cure stations. Facilitate the transition from physical impressions to digital STL files and precision-printed models.
Workflow & Outsourcing Management: Coordinate the lifecycle of cases sent to external commercial laboratories; track outgoing/incoming cases to ensure quality control and timely delivery for patient appointments.
Educational Support: Serve as a technical resource for orthodontic residents by demonstrating laboratory methods and wire-bending techniques. Assist faculty with lab-based instruction, clinical demonstrations, and academic presentations.
Equipment & Lab Stewardship: Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipmentincluding 3D printers, model trimmers, and soldering stationsto ensure a safe, organized, and high-functioning work environment.
Targeted pay range: $19.28 - $25.19 based on experience and education.
Additional Information: Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
