WSP is seeking a Mid-level Civil /Structure Engineer for our Ann Arbor, Michigan and New Albany, Ohio offices. This opportunity allows our engineers to be involved in projects with our WSP Power Delivery Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design with a team of engineers and drafters for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions from 34kV to 765kV voltages.
Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of overhead transmission line projects:
PLS-CADD model
PLS-POLE models
Project design criteria
Steel pole loading calculations and drawings
Engineering drawings and specifications
Foundation designs and drawings
Bill of materials
Provide mentorship and guidance to others. Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others
Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met
Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities.
Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Experience in the design of overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines including route selection, conductor, OHGW and OPGW selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, foundation design and analysis, procurement specification development and development of construction bid packages
- PLS-CADD / PLS-POLE experience
- Foundation design experience using industry software (RISA, L-PILE, FAD etc.)
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS)
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
- Distribution/underbuild design experience is a plus
- Managerial and leadership skills a plus
- Involvement in technical societies (IEEE, CIGRE, ASCE) is a plus
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
