Coordinate design projects for developing high-quality and cost-effective lamp products in the OEM automotive field. Ensure designs are government compliant and achieve customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities- Design and layout automotive lighting (forward/rear) to meet customer specifications.
- Perform DFMEA, FTA analyses, and hold part design reviews.
- Confirm designs during mock-up and tooled part reviews.
- Create and maintain 2D/3D drawings and BOMs in the PLM system.
- Minimize production-related problems by ensuring good design practices.
- Facilitate effective communication of technical and project-related information to customers, suppliers, and company personnel.
- Provide guidance and training to Design Engineers I and II.
- Ensure compliance with established ISO requirements for the product development process.
- 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering and 4 years of experience.
- 4+ years of experience in lamp design (forward or rear) and plastic injection molding or die mold construction.
- Advanced experience using Microsoft Office products.
- Strong understanding of FMVSS 108 and other global lighting regulations.
- Understanding of electrical circuits and LED operation.
- Understanding of thermal management and structural design.
- Experience working directly with Automotive OEM.
- Experience with ANSYS SPEOS, LUCIDSHAPE, and CATIA V5/V6.
- 4 to 6 years of knowledge and skill in CATIA V5.
- 3D CAD (CATIA V5) experience in Solids, Surfacing, Assembly, and Drafting preferred.
- Injection-molded plastic part design experience preferred.
- Automotive experience with knowledge of Honda, Toyota, or Nissan development process preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated communication and problem-solving skills in lamp design.
- Experience with ANSYS or Lucidshape.
The position involves lifting a maximum of 40 lbs for up to 5 hours per day and working in a general office environment for 8 hours per day. Additionally, you may work in a manufacturing/lab environment for 1-2 hours per week. Occasional overnight travel may be required to perform essential functions at customer locations, remote locations, overseas or training facilities. The role requires overtime (unplanned and unscheduled) to meet customer deadlines and requirements. Work hours could be split between desk work and test lab activities to measure and confirm part functions.
