The Whiting Refinery is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead a maintenance execution team consisting of bp crafts and contractors. This role is accountable for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of maintenance activities across refinery assets while ensuring adherence to bp work management processes and standards.
The Maintenance Supervisor partners with different departments to deliver high quality maintenance that supports refinery reliability and performance.
Health, Safety, Environmental & Carbon (HSE+C)
Lead health, safety, and environmental performance with the objective of no accidents, no harm to people, and no harm to the environment
Embed bp Safety Leadership Principles and Life Saving Rules into daily work execution
Support implementation of safety improvement recommendations and corrective actions
Drive learning from incidents, near misses, and observations across the team, refinery, and company
Ensure compliance with all HSE+C policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Maintenance Execution & Leadership
Lead and supervise all maintenance activities for assigned assets, including bp crafts and contractors
Resource and assign work, set daily expectations, and manage schedule adherence
Provide coverage for supervisory absences and support effective shift and crew handovers
Conduct field leadership, job walkdowns, and final work verification to ensure quality completion
Safety, Permitting & Risk Management
Coordinate permits, isolations (LOTO), firewater use, confined space entry, hot work, lifting operations, and IDLH work
Verify zero energy isolation and authorize removal of maintenance holds following work completion
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety incidents, near misses, and observations
Support risk assessments, lifting plans, and safe execution of high risk work
Work Management & Planning
Ensure adherence to bp work management processes, policies, and procedures
Participate in daily work reviews, weekly scheduling meetings, and break in management
Validate work scope, materials, craft availability, and executability prior to schedule lock
Accurately allocate labor, time, and costs within SAP, TRACK, and related systems
Contractor, Vendor & Quality Oversight
Coordinate and lead all aspects of contractors and third party vendors to ensure safe, efficient, and cost effective execution
Serve as Job Representative when required and approve contractor allocations and timesheets
Ensure QC/QA requirements are met, including inspections, weld compliance, and documentation
Review KPIs and support continuous improvement through lessons learned and performance feedback
Cross Functional Teamwork
Work closely with Operations to align maintenance execution with unit priorities
Support TAR planning, special projects, investigations, and Business Improvement initiatives
Collaborate with Planning, Environmental, P&C, L&D, and Quality teams
Stay aligned with organizational, planning, and process changes impacting maintenance execution
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Proven experience in a heavy industrial environment
Proven experience in a heavy industrial environment with a Bachelors degree in a relevant field or Journeyman status is desirable
Supervisory or leadership experience in an industrial setting
Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance, including:
Piping systems
Rotating equipment
Static equipment
Proven leadership in a fast paced , operational environment
Proficiency in SAP, Meridium , and Microsoft Office applications
