Position Overview
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for developing and managing the company's financial infrastructure, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and scalability. As a key member of the team, you will drive the development of financial systems, processes, and reporting to support strategic decision-making and prepare the company for sustained growth and potential investment rounds.
This role requires a hands-on financial mind with strong accounting expertise, startup experience, and a passion for building from the ground up.
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting compliance with regulatory and accounting standards applicable to a medical device and service provider organization. This role plays a key part in the monthly close process, inventory and revenue accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and audit readiness, while partnering with cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, and Commercial.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Lead assigned areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide explanations to management.
Revenue & Cost Accounting
- Support transition to revenue recognition for product sales, service contracts, warranties, and multi-element arrangements in accordance with ASC 606.
- Account for inventory, including standard costing, inventory reserves, obsolescence, and cycle count adjustments.
- Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS) and gross margin trends.
Compliance & Controls
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, compliance and company accounting policies.
- Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to inquiries.
- Ensure accounting practices align with regulatory requirements relevant to medical device companies.
Operational & Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with Operations to ensure accurate inventory valuation and to project financial planning and cash-flow analysis.
- Collaborate with Commercial team on revenue and billing matters.
- Support system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements (ERP, reporting tools).
Process Improvement & Mentorship
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automation, and documentation.
- Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Valid CPA certification and license
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with inventory accounting and revenue recognition.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, Excel, and PowerBI tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in medical devices, life sciences, manufacturing, or regulated industries.
- Experience with ASC 606 and inventory standard costing.
- SOX or audit experience.
