Job Summary
Job Description
Metro Water Recovery in Denver, CO-a nationally recognized leader among clean water utilities, provides wastewater conveyance and treatment servicing over 2 million people in the Denver Metro area.
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical equipment and systems used in wastewater treatment and collection facilities. Ensures that all mechanical assets and related equipment are properly maintained to support continuous and efficient plant operations. Schedules and directs the work of maintenance staff, ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, maintains maintenance records. Reports to the Senior Mechanical Maintenance Manager (RWHTF) or Senior Maintenance Manager (NTP).
Examples of Duties:
- Plans, supervise, schedules, directs, and evaluates work of mechanical maintenance personnel using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Reviews, develops, and recommends changes to mechanical preventive and corrective maintenance and lubrication programs. Recommends and evaluates new equipment.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders regarding mechanical maintenance projects and maintenance activities. Coordinates equipment removal and installation with contractors and other Metro departments during work on new installations and modifications to existing Metro facilities.
- Serves as a subject matter expert regarding mechanical maintenance work. Provides training and mentorship to mechanical maintenance staff.
- Recommends and assists with updates, changes, and establishment of blueprints, schematics, and equipment O&M manuals.
- Advises Management of critical and continuing maintenance problems. Submits regular reports of activities and interactions.
- Participates in employee selection process and evaluates performance and skill levels of employees; provides counseling, and discipline as necessary. Participates in performance appraisal process as Supervisor.
- Responsible for maintaining and promoting a safe working environment. Ensure employees complete all required training on time, maintain compliance with organizational requirements, and follow all safety protocols. Ensures employees maintain required certifications.
- Manage the requisition of parts and supplies and assist in the development of recommended inventory levels.
- Reviews and recommend revisions to the Mechanical Apprentices curriculum as needed. Ensures that Mechanical Maintenance staff are completing curriculum and required training.
- Works with Strategy and Communication in the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives in the Mechanical Maintenance division and throughout the Maintenance department.
- Participates in Mechanical Maintenance on-call program.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Extensive knowledge of industrial mechanical systems such as those used in wastewater treatment, including pumps, valves, piping, and rotating equipment
- Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance methods
- Reliability-centered maintenance techniques
- Understanding mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals
- Industrial safety practices, confined space entry procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and general industrial safety requirements
Skilled at:
- Good verbal and written communication
- Process improvement
- Training and mentoring apprentices and/or staff in proper MIT practices, procedures, and skills
- Project management including work planning, resource allocation and progress reviews through project completion
- Acting as a subject matter expert in millwright, machinist, pipefitter, welder or as an industrial wastewater maintenance mechanic
- Installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems
- Demonstrating qualified mechanical safety procedures
- Managing disagreements, de-escalating conflict, and negotiating win-win solutions
- Utilizing a CMMS to perform tasks and track information for maintenance activities
- Active and empathic listening skills
Ability to:
- Organize and coordinate work assignments, including post-job follow up documentation and communication
- Recommend updates and modifications to drawings and schematics
- Follow Procurement procedures to acquire parts, services, and provide warehouse inventory recommendations
- Implement and enforce policies and procedures fairly and consistently. Implement efficiencies in line with Metro’s continuous improvement programs
- Work a flexible schedule that ensures coverage and supervision of MIT staff
- Participate in the on-call program as required
- Coordinate with other Metro divisions and employees
- Effectively supervise staff
Education, License, and Certifications
Graduation from High School or GED equivalent. Completion of a four-year apprenticeship in a related field or an Academic degree or trade school certification (or equivalent) in a related technology. Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professional’s (SMRP) Certified Maintenance Reliability Technician (CMRT).
