General Counsel, Investments

YOUR ROLE
As an Investments team member, youll play a key role in the innovative investment strategies that enable our company and our financial products to serve our customers and their families when they need us most now and in the future. Reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer, with an additional line into the HQ General Counsel, the Investments General Counsel will provide legal, compliance, and governance expertise, advice, risk mitigation and leadership to Genworth's Investments organization.
- Serve as a core member of the Investments leadership team, partnering closely with functional leaders, asset class heads and senior stakeholders including the CFO and Operations leadership to drive strategic priorities and execution
- Be responsible for and manage the Investments Legal and Compliance teams
- Significant interaction with the HQ General Counsel and HQ legal team and other company business segments
What you will be doing
- Provide legal and internal governance advice and guidance to the Chief Investment Officer and the Investments leadership team
- Collaborate with Chief Investment Officer and Investments leadership team on Investments annual goals, new and continuing strategic matters and issues that arise in the ordinary course
- Manage the Investments legal and compliance team, including personnel development, expense management and prudent allocation of legal resources, including use and oversight of external counsel
- Advise on corporate governance matters at the corporate and subsidiary board and Investment Committee levels, ensuring compliance with governance policies and procedures
- Monitor regulatory developments at the NAIC and state legislative and regulatory levels, guide colleagues on laws and regulations related to investment-related activities and represent the organization in regulatory and industry forums to ensure alignment and compliance with legal and compliance standards relating to investments
- Assist with identification and coordination of legal initiatives and strategies at Genworth enterprise-level to ensure consistency and appropriate legal risk mitigation
- Ensure coordination of Investments litigation and legal liability risk assessment including management of external legal counsel with Genworths litigation experts
- Review, draft, and negotiate investment-related contracts, including investment management agreements, limited partnership agreements, derivatives contracts and financing arrangements
- Coordinate with and be an active participant in Genworth legal and compliance leadership team and keep Genworths General Counsel apprised of legal and compliance issues relating to Investments
What you bring
- JD from an accredited law school and member in good standing of at least one state bar
- 10+ years of investments, insurance, and/or transactional legal experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and supporting teams providing legal advice and compliance support
- Experience leading a team, managing people, and processes to efficiently accomplish objectives
- Strong prioritization, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, project management, and change management skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to execute against established goals
- Sound judgment with ability to work as both a team member and leader
- Ability to interface with multiple constituencies
- Ability to focus on details while maintaining attention on strategic priorities
Nice to have
- Experience in nationally recognized corporate law practice
- Demonstrated experience with implementing artificial intelligence in law practice
- Government relations experience

For the State of New York:
The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $211,700 up to the maximum of $403,100. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 40% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
