Job Description


A Seasonal Tax Preparer is needed to support individual income tax return preparation during the upcoming busy season at a Phoenix-based CPA firm. This role focuses on accurate and efficient Form 1040 preparation while providing attentive client service.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns (Form 1040) and related schedules (including Schedules A, B, C, D, and E, as applicable).

  • Gather, organize, and analyze client tax documents and information to ensure accurate and complete filings.

  • Identify applicable deductions, credits, and planning opportunities within the scope of the engagement while maintaining compliance with current tax laws.

  • Communicate with clients and internal team members in a clear, professional manner regarding questions, missing information, and return status.

  • Review work for accuracy before submission and assist with e-filing and basic notice or follow-up items as directed.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Prior hands-on experience preparing individual income tax returns (Form 1040 and related schedules) in a tax practice or similar setting is required.

  • Proficiency with professional tax preparation software CCH Axcess and solid general computer skills (Excel, document management, secure portals).

  • Strong knowledge of current federal and Arizona individual income tax laws and filing requirements, with the ability to stay updated as rules change.

  • High level of attention to detail, strong organization skills, and the ability to manage multiple returns under tight deadlines.

Schedule, work environment, and compensation

  • Employment type: Seasonal/temporary, typically February through April 15, with additional hours available through mid-October for extension work depending on workload.

  • Work environment: Primarily in-office in Phoenix, Arizona, with potential hybrid flexibility after training based on performance and firm needs.

  • Hours: Part-time to full-time during peak periods, with some  Saturdays expected as deadlines approach.
