Position Overview The City of Columbia is hiring a Maintenance Technician I to support daily operations at Columbia Regional Airport. This hands-on role is essential to keeping airport facilities, equipment, and grounds safe, clean, and operating efficiently for travelers, staff, and the community.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical, active work, takes pride in maintaining public facilities, and wants stable, long-term employment with excellent benefits. What You Will Do Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of airport facilities and grounds.
Conduct preventative maintenance on structures, fixtures, and equipment.
Complete minor repairs and assist with replacing or repairing appliances and equipment.
Paint prepared surfaces and assist with facility upkeep projects.
Assist with ordering, maintaining, and distributing maintenance supplies.
Follow safety standards and established procedures at all times.
Work independently and as part of a team to support airport operations.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
At least one year of related maintenance, facilities, or manual labor experience.
Ability to perform physical work in indoor and outdoor environments.
Additional Requirements Positions assigned to the airport must successfully pass an annual Transportation Security Administration background check.
Depending on assignment, a Pesticide Applicator Certification or other relevant certification may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of building maintenance practices, tools, and equipment.
Understanding of safety standards and protocols.
Ability to estimate time and materials needed for tasks.
Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Ability to work independently, solve problems, and stay task-focused.
Commitment to providing effective customer service and maintaining positive working relationships.
Work Environment This position involves frequent outdoor work and exposure to weather conditions, noise, mechanical equipment, and airport operations. Work may occur near moving vehicles, in shops or warehouses, and occasionally in confined spaces.
Physical requirements include working on your feet, lifting, bending, climbing, grasping tools, and operating equipment. This role may require lifting heavy objects and performing physically demanding tasks.
