Job Description

Clinical Director – Central State Hospital

We are seeking a visionary Clinical Director to oversee psychiatric care within Georgia’s premier maximum-security forensic facility. This is a rare opportunity to apply your organizational leadership and forensic expertise to a mission-critical public service operation.

In this role, you will direct inpatient treatment and evaluations for individuals within the criminal justice system. If you are a clinician-leader dedicated to delivering high-quality, continuous active treatment in a secure setting, we invite you to lead our team.

DBHDD – Who We Are

Established in 2009 by the Governor and General Assembly, the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) operates state hospitals and provides community-based services statewide through contracted partners. Our mission is to lead an accountable and effective continuum of care, supporting all Georgians with behavioral health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities. As Georgia’s vital public safety net, our vision is to ensure easy access to high-quality care that guides the uninsured and underinsured people we serve toward a life of recovery and independence.

Central State Hospital (CSH), is a 182-bed maximum secure forensics facility which provides state of the art multi-disciplinary services including psychiatric evaluation, treatment and recovery services for people referred from the state’s criminal justice and corrections systems. In addition, CSH provides staff-supervised residential homes in the community serving individuals with behavioral health disorders (Central Care Community Services). Central State Hospital is proud to be continuously accredited by the Joint Commission since 1983.

As a Senior Manager of Healthcare Services, you will bridge the gap between clinical excellence and operational efficiency. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement long-term goals and policies that define the future of forensic mental health in Georgia.
  • Clinical Oversight: Direct the delivery of health services to ensure they are adequate, accessible, and compliant with Joint Commission and APA standards.
  • Team Empowerment: Lead, mentor, and hire a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Operational Excellence: Manage human resources, participate in budget administration, and modernize care through the integration of diagnostic technology and data-driven assessments.
  • Program Innovation: Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, adapting strategies to meet the evolving needs of the criminal justice and public health systems.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree + 4 years of healthcare management experience
    • Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) and licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law and three (3) years of experience at the lower level Physician 3 (HCP162) or position equivalent.

Preferred Candidates Will Possess:
