Central State Hospital (CSH) is home to Georgia’s maximum-secure forensic psychiatric program, located in the modern Payton B. Cook Building. We provide evaluation, treatment, and stabilization for individuals referred by the criminal justice system, including those undergoing pre-trial psychiatric evaluation, found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, deemed Incompetent to Stand Trial, or admitted from jails statewide for urgent psychiatric care.
We are seeking an experienced, mission-driven Psychiatrist to serve as Clinical Director—a senior leadership role with the authority to shape clinical strategy, strengthen multidisciplinary practice, and improve outcomes for a uniquely complex and meaningful patient population.

Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Director provides executive-level clinical leadership and operational oversight. Responsibilities include:
Clinical & Operational Leadership
Set vision and direction for psychiatric services, ensuring evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Oversee, develop, and implement clinical policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Lead, mentor, and evaluate psychiatrists and other clinical managers; ensure a culture of collaboration, learning, and accountability.
Maintain awareness of advances in psychiatric treatment, diagnostic tools, technology, regulatory standards, and best practices.
Program Oversight & Quality Management
Plan, organize, and coordinate the delivery of health services across all units.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical programs, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission and APA standards.
Ensure that services are appropriate, accessible, and responsive to patient and system needs.
Perform community and system assessments and translate data into strategic priorities.
Strategic & Administrative Leadership
Participate in strategic and operational planning for the hospital and forensic service line.
Direct administrative and human-resource activities for clinical teams.
Interview, hire, develop, and supervise staff; implement performance standards.
Participate in budget planning and resource allocation to support high-quality care.
Ensure continuous active treatment and alignment with organizational goals.
Preferred Qualifications
Medical degree from a school recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board.
Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency.
Board-Certified Psychiatrist (required).
Senior-level experience with substantial supervision of psychiatrists.
Knowledge of Joint Commission, APA, and forensic psychiatric standards.
Experience in forensic, inpatient, or public-sector psychiatry strongly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board and licensure (or license-eligibility) to practice medicine in Georgia.
Three years of experience at the level of Physician 3 (HCP162) or equivalent; OR
Equivalent combination of degree and progressive leadership experience per state job specifications.
