Our client is seeking a Controller who is ready to step up, take ownership, and build a world-class financial backbone for a rapidly growing waste hauling operation. This Controller will be the financial leader on-site, partnering directly with operations, sales, and leadership to bring discipline, structure, and long-term financial visibility to the business.
This role is perfect for an Assistant Controller or strong Senior Accountant who is ready for the next level — someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, loves solving problems, and can create the processes and SOPs a scaling company needs. The Controller will play a key role in future growth and will establish the financial systems that support a high-performing, family-focused culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all month-end close processes, financial reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Develop, implement, and refine financial controls, SOPs, and accounting workflows from the ground up.
  • Oversee AP, AR, payroll, billing accuracy, and general ledger integrity.
  • Partner with operations leadership to improve job costing, margins, route profitability, and budgeting.
  • Manage audits, compliance, and internal review procedures.
  • Prepare and monitor annual budgets, financial models, and cash flow management.
  • Support leadership with actionable reporting and financial insights for fast-paced decision-making.
  • Ensure the Controller function stays aligned with the company’s mission, growth plans, and operational needs.

Ideal Background

  • Experience in waste hauling, recycling, trucking, transportation, logistics, construction, or any high-volume, asset-heavy service environment.
  • Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or Accounting Manager ready to move into a true Controller position.
  • Hands-on, self-directed, and comfortable building structure where processes need improvement.
  • Strong systems experience (Excel, ERP platforms, industry billing tools).
  • Ability to thrive in a family-owned environment with high accountability and teamwork.

Why Join Our Client

  • Rapidly growing, financially strong waste hauling company.
  • Family-oriented culture with a leadership team that values transparency, input, and collaboration.
  • Opportunity to build the entire accounting structure and make an immediate impact.
  • Strong benefits package and competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Direct access to senior leadership with future career advancement potential.
