Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Controller to lead the financial operations of our foundation construction company. This role oversees all accounting functions, ensures accurate project financials, and builds internal systems that support efficiency, clarity, and long-term growth. The Controller will work closely with Operations, the Purchasing Manager, and Project Managers to maintain strong job cost controls, accurate forecasting, and actionable financial reporting. The ideal candidate takes initiative, brings solutions forward, and uses financial insights to create value across the organization.
Job Description
Financial Coordination & Project Support
- Partner with Operations, the Purchasing Manager, and Project Managers to ensure accurate job costing, budgeting, and forecasting for all projects.
- Review and verify invoices, purchase orders, and project costs for accuracy and alignment with financial expectations.
- Use financial data proactively to support project planning and identify potential risks or variances early.
- Provide clear cost insights and performance metrics to improve project outcomes and decision-making.
Accounting Oversight
- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including:
- Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
- Project Billing
- Payroll Processing
- General Ledger Management
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and tax/regulatory requirements.
- Support audits and external financial reviews as needed.
Internal Controls, Procedures & Reporting
- Develop, refine, and implement internal procedures, financial controls, and standardized workflows to increase accuracy, efficiency, and operational consistency.
- Build reporting systems and dashboards that provide leadership with clear, actionable insights to support business optimization and growth.
- Take an action-first, forward-thinking approach to process improvement—identifying opportunities, creating solutions, and driving enhancements across accounting and operations.
- Continuously evaluate financial workflows and reporting methods to ensure the company is positioned for scalability and long-term success.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of accounting or finance experience, including 3–5 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Knowledge of the construction industry strongly preferred, especially job costs and project billing
- Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial process building.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to implement procedures, strengthen internal controls, and create high-value reporting systems.
- Forward-thinking, proactive mindset with the ability to collaborate across departments and support company goals.
